Felt Wallet Tutorial
Looking for a quick handmade gift, a kid-friendly sewing project, or a cute way to store gift cards? This felt & ribbon wallet is the perfect craft!
Let’s get stitching!
✨ Materials You’ll Need
Felt pieces: our dimensions were 3.75" x 3.25" for the top piece and 6.25" x 3.25" for the back
Embroidery thread (any coordinating color)
Embroidery needle
Ribbon (we used ⅜")
Fabric scissors
📏 Step 1: Prep Your Felt Pieces
Lay out your two pieces of felt:
The larger piece (6.25" x 3.25") will become the outside of your wallet. The smaller piece (3.75" x 3.2") will form the pocket.
Place the smaller felt rectangle centered on top of the larger piece, lining up the bottom edges.

🧵 Step 2: Stitch the Pocket in Place
Thread your needle with embroidery thread and knot the end.
Starting at one bottom corner:
Stitch up one side of the pocket, across the top, then down the other side.
A whip stitch or blanket stitch both look adorable—choose your favorite!
Leave the top of the smaller piece open. This becomes your wallet pocket.

🎀 Step 3: Create the Ribbon Closure
At the top center of the larger felt piece (above the pocket):
-
Cut a small horizontal slit, just wide enough for your ribbon to slide through.
-
You can use sharp sewing scissors or a fabric hole punch.
-
-
Feed one end of the ribbon through the slit from back to front.
-
Pull through a few inches — this will be the tie that secures your wallet.
You can leave the ribbon tails long for a bow, or trim them for a simple tie. We added a border to our opening for a clean look!

🧁 Step 4: Secure & Style
To keep the ribbon from slipping, stitch a tiny tack mark with embroidery thread to anchor it.
Finally, slide your goodies into the felt pocket and tie the ribbon over the top.
Cute, secure, and satisfyingly soft!

🎉 Finished!
